About Gyasi Taylor

I’ve always been an observer of life. My journey has carried me through different schools, countries, and cultures, each one shaping how I see the world and the stories I tell. Growing up in private schools where I was often one of only a handful of melanated students gave me an early awareness of difference. Later, struggles with systemic racism at work, a failed interracial relationship, and the experience of living in England all deepened my perspective and ultimately inspired Fractal.

Living and learning across borders gave me a wide lens: one that notices how people carry their histories, how light and shadow move through everyday moments, and how resilience is forged through challenge.

The path to becoming an author wasn’t straight. I faced personal challenges that tested me deeply, but those same struggles became fuel for my creative drive. Writing was never just an escape — it was a way to rebuild myself, piece by piece.

My first novel was a practice ground, full of mistakes but essential to learning the craft. Fractal grew out of the growth that followed — a project born from both pain and transformation, shaped by curiosity about identity, memory, and human potential.

I write to help myself, and in turn I hope to help others. Fractal is the first step in a trilogy, but it’s also a reflection of my life: a work that wrestles with what it means to change, to endure, and to awaken to the light within.
